Diploma in Clinical Supervision
A course in clinical supervision through a relational lens, held fully in-person at our college, in Wymondham, Norfolk.
This Diploma course is designed to develop the knowledge and competencies required to be a clinical supervisor. At the centre of the course’s design is the training of ethical practitioners, working at high clinical standards. There is a focus on the relational dimensions – the relationship between client and counsellor and the relationship between counsellor and supervisor.
Successful completion of this course means you can be added to the Matrix list of approved supervisors. Matrix members who complete the course can also be added to the UKCP’s Directory of Supervisors.

The two tutors, Fiona Paul and Ian Argent, come from different humanistic traditions (Integrative and Transactional Analysis) and each have a different lens through which we make sense of our work. We hope that this integrating, co-creative approach will bring a richness to the teaching, offering a solid theoretical and clinical base which is accessible and comprehensive.
As well as covering different models of supervision and practical aspects, there is a focus on preparation for practice. Trainees will learn theory of supervision, look at the different tasks and challenges of being a supervisor, and develop their supervisory skills. They will reflect on their own supervisory style, integrating feedback from group members and supervisees.
The teaching will be a mixture of didactic input, group discussions, and small/large group exercises. Skills practice will take the form of triad working, and/or large group observation.

Entry requirements: 3 years post registration (download for full requirements)
Fees: £3000
A non-refundable deposit of £400 is required to secure your place. Matrix members qualify for a 5% discount. Students can pay in instalments.
Additional Costs: Students are required to have a minimum of 10 hours of supervision of supervision with a UKCP Registered or BACP Accredited (or equivalent) practitioner who meets the Matrix requirements for entry onto the Matrix Supervision Directory. This will cost approximately £600.
Application Requirements
- A recognised counselling qualification
- UKCP Registration, BACP Accreditation or NCPS Accredited Professional Registrant
- At least three years of clinical work post-registration as a UKCP Psychotherapist or Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, a BACP Accredited counsellor or NCPS Accredited Professional Registrant
Application Process
Applicants are required to send in a current CV which demonstrates their experience (including number of years in practice) and provide evidence of their qualification and registration. Please include the reasons for wanting to complete the supervision training. In addition, we ask for a letter of recommendation from a current supervisor. Please send both to nikkita@matrix.ac.uk
Applications will be read by both tutors. If successful at this stage, applicants will then be invited to a 30 minute Zoom interview with one or both of the tutors.
